Tone: Witch Hazel on a cotton pad with 2 drops Tea Tree Oil

Moisturize: 3 drops Avocado Oil + 2 drops Frankincense, smooth over face

Detox Part 2

thieves-cleaner-personalizedI cannot stress the importance of “detoxing” your body and home through smarter choices in products. I am writing it in steps so its not too overwhelming and costly to change everything at once. See Detox Part 1 for changing toothpaste, deodorant and soap.

Part 2 is changing over Household products. I absolutely LOVE this Thieves Cleaner. It actually makes me want to clean! lt smells so good and best of all – does a  really great job! And kills the germs! I do my entire house with it…windows, mirrors, counter tops, toilet etc. It is a concentrated cleaner so the little bottle makes 60+ spray bottles.

All Purpose Spray: 1 tbsp. thieves cleaner + 16oz distilled water.

Scrub Recipe: 1/4 cup Thieves cleaner + 1 cup baking soda

Jewelry Cleaner: 1 tsp Thieves cleaner + 1 tsp baking soda + 5 drops Lemon Essential Oil (let jewelry sit for 10 mins, gently scrub with tooth brush and rinse)

Detox Part 1

detox1We are bombarded with chemicals daily by our personal care products and cleaning products. These chemicals can affect your hormones, thyroid and memory; contribute to cancer, skin problems, headaches and more. Start eliminating the chemicals that go into or onto your body and start to live a “cleaner” life.

It can be overwhelming to change everything to “clean” products all at once. Start with the most important and tackle it little by little. Use the list below as many brands claim to be “green” but still contain harmful ingredients.

Step 1:  Start with hand/body soap, toothpaste and deodorant

Check your ingredients and eliminate products with the following ingredients:

  • Aluminum
  • Triclosan
  • FD&C Blue 1 and FD&C Green
  • Parabens
  • Phthalates
  • Fragrances
  • Propylene Gycol (PEG, isopropyl alcohol)
  • Sodium Lauryl
  • Alcohol
  • Petrolatum

I like these Young Living products because they are plant based and do not contain any of the ingredients listed. They also work well! Check back for Part 2!

Boost Your Day!

ningxia-red-compliant-microI am in love with this antioxidant juice, NingXia Red! It has 18 amino acids, 21 trace minerals, beta-carotene, vitamins B1, B2, B6 and E along with polyphenols. The power of this synergy gives me an extra lift each day with only 1-2 oz per day. It combats free radicals with the high level of antioxidants, boosts energy, supports brain and cognitive health, digestive health, immune system, healthy blood pressure levels and can promote more restful sleep patterns.

It is made from wolfberries (one of the highest antioxidant fruits), blueberries, cherries, plums, pomegranate and contains some of Young Living’s amazing essential oils including lemon, orange, yuku and tangerine.

DIY- Hair Mask

hair maskAfter vacation to Florida and spending our days in the ocean, pool and out in the sun, my hair was in need of some TLC! I created a hair mask to help soften it up. I first washed my hair and left a tiny bit of conditioner on it. Then applied this hair mask and left on for about 20-30 minutes. Afterwards, rinsed it and complete soft hair!

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp – 1/4 cup of your conditioner (since I already had some on my hair from the shower I did 2 tbsp)
  • 4 drops Young Living Tea Tree Oil
  • 4 drops Young Living Frankincense Oil

Leave on 20-30 minutes and enjoy soft hair!

What are you putting ON your body?

45451041_sDo you think about the ingredients you spread onto your body everyday? Reading ingredients for products applied topically are just as important as reading your nutrition labels.

Your skin is your largest organ and protects your entire body. Taking care of it is key to your overall health.

I have always had “sensitive” skin and been sensitive to scents. After I had my daughter, I decided to do skin allergy testing to determine why I was getting random rashes. OMG, it really opened my eyes to all the harmful ingredients that are in the products we put on our bodies. The test determined that I was allergic to fragrance, parabens, formaldehyde… The list went on and on. At the time, it was totally overwhelming to find new products I could use. Now, I am so thankful because I have been using “clean” products on my skin and I no longer have skin irritations.

In the U.S. we allow more toxic ingredients into our products than most countries. In fact, Europe has banned over 1000 chemicals that the U.S. allows in our beauty and household products. A study conducted in 2004 by EWG took 10 umbilical cords to test how many toxic chemicals were found. The results are alarming! There were 287 chemicals detected of which 180 cause cancer in humans or animals. Read more details. Not only are there those that are toxic, many chemicals can disrupt your hormones causing many other problems with our health.

I think many are unaware of how much the body absorbs through the skin and how harmful ingredients can be. Try not to get overwhelmed with it, but take one product at a time and try to find an alternative. Here are a couple resources to help. Find how your products rate on EWG’s site. I also reference the Gorgeously Green Beauty Cheat Sheet. If you would like a copy emailed to you, send me an email Christy@InspireWellnessSTL.com.

Cinnamon Face

FullSizeRender (007)Here is a homemade mask that I tried awhile back and now I’m hooked! It is a clean way to leave your face feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. It also helped reduce some spots I developed on my face during pregnancy. And is anti-aging!

Just a warning…It will start to sting after a couple minutes…but, that’s a good sting…must be working!

I like to do it once or twice a week.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 drops Young Living Frankincense

Mix together and refrigerate for 10 minutes. Smooth over your face. Save the leftovers for next time!
